The transition to Windows 11 is progressing steadily, with 277 devices at Associated Food Stores now running the new operating system. Of those, 143 devices have been upgraded since the option was first made available and this represents about 32 percent of all Windows devices within the company. The new operating system offers improved security, performance and features designed to enhance workflow.
Windows 11 is being rolled out in two phases. The first phase is voluntary and will be available for about the next week, with the deadline for voluntary upgrades set for Friday, September 13. After that, starting Monday, September 16, IT teams will begin a phased, involuntary rollout for the remaining devices, ensuring the upgrade is completed by the end of the year.
Both voluntary and forced upgrades will download and install in the background, allowing employees to continue working uninterrupted. However, a system reboot will be required to complete the upgrade, which can be postponed for up to 30 days. After the 30-day window, rebooting will become mandatory.
