Twelve years ago, Kong joined the Macey’s team, and he has been an integral part ever since, bringing joy to team members and guests. To celebrate this milestone, Macey’s stores pulled out all the stops with birthday festivities spanning an entire week.
From August 12 – August 17 a special edition sprinkle Kong Kone was available. Guests could also enjoy a limited-edition birthday doughnut and a birthday cake ice cream shake at select locations.
On Kong’s birthday, Saturday August 17, guests enjoyed a free mini cupcake and free Kong birthday coloring pages. That afternoon each Macey’s location hosted Kong Kone eating contests. Participants were divided into three age groups: 5–7-year-olds, who tackled the Momma-sized Kong Kone; 8–12-year-olds, who took on the Daddy-sized Kone; and those 13 and up, who faced the ultimate-sized Kong Kone. Contestants had one minute to finish their cones. Participants eagerly competed for the grand prize—a year of free Momma Kong Kones, a stylish Kong T-shirt, and perhaps the most coveted reward of all, a spot on the prestigious Kong Wall of Fame.
Kong is a widely recognized mascot and his birthday gives team and community members a change to celebrate him.
