As reported by the Utah Food Industry Association, Harmons’ Courtesy Clerk Madison Ireland bagged a national championship at the National Grocery Association’s (NGA) National Best Bagger Competition.
Madison Ireland, a bagger from Harmons in Draper and the Utah state bagging champion, claimed the National Championship and a $10,000 grand prize at the National Best Bagger competition held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Madison competed against the best of the best from stores across the country.
The contest, in its 37th year, was held March 11, 2024, at the National Grocers Association Show held at Caesars Forum in Las Vegas, Nevada. Contestants were judged on speed of bagging, proper bag-building technique, weight distribution in the bag, as well as style, attitude and appearance.
The National Best Bagger Championship is the culminating event of a yearlong nationwide contest. Each state can send their state’s best bagging champion to compete against the champions from across the country. Utah will determine its next state champion on August 6th at the Utah Food Industry Association’s annual convention held at the Davis Conference Center in Layton. The winner will be eligible to participate in the 2025 national bagging contest that will be held next February in Las Vegas.
