Senator Praises Associated Food Stores During Hearing in Washington D.C.
The National Grocers Association (NGA) had an opportunity to testify before the Senate Antitrust Subcommittee last week on the proposed Kroger-Albertsons Merger. Michael Needler Jr. testified on behalf of independent grocers and reports that by every measurement, it was a success and provided a major platform to discuss the problem of how consolidation results in anticompetitive buyer power.
Senator Mike Lee, who recently visited the Farr West Distribution Center, was extremely sympathetic to the concerns voiced by NGA. He specifically called out Associated Food Stores during the hearing and gave the company credit for being a great organization. Click on the video below to hear Senator Lee’s comments.
