After over 30 years of service, Virginia Brown is retiring on Thursday, March 31 from Associated Food Stores. Virginia started with AFS on August 5, 1991. She was hired to work in accounts payable but transitioned to the mailroom shortly after she started. After about 10 years, she transferred to the advertising billing office to work as an accounting specialist where she has been working hard for the past 20 years.
Working in the mailroom gave Virginia the unique opportunity early in her career to work closely with a lot of different people throughout the company. She was in constant contact with the different departments and said that has been beneficial to her, “Everyone visits the mailroom, so I got to know people and it helped me understand how our company works.” In her current role she creates job orders for print items, bills the stores and helps with whatever else comes up, “No day is the same and that keeps it exciting! I’ve seen a lot of changes in our company in the past 30 years, including the add-on to the corporate office and the opening of the distribution center in Farr West.”
Virginia has loved working for a company that places so much emphasis on family. She enjoys taking her grandchildren to company events and is going to miss interacting with her work family every day but plans to still see them occasionally. She’s a loyal Macey’s shopper and will continue to shop Macey’s Taylorsville and West Jordan.
“Virginia has been an incredible part of our team! It’s obvious that people enjoy working with her and she has built life-long friendships here at AFS. She has handled her job with grace and ease and has always been willing to help come up with solutions to any problems. She is going to be greatly missed” expressed Wayne Dalton, creative services manager.
Virginia is looking forward to spending more time outside and more time with her family, including taking her grandchildren swimming.
