AFS Team Volunteers to Help Feed Hungry Children

There are 20,000 students in Davis and Weber counties who participate in free or reduced breakfast and lunch during the school week. However, when it comes to food on Saturday and Sunday, some of these children don’t have consistent access to food. This is where Bridging the Gap comes in.

Associated Food Stores has partnered with Catholic Community Services for two years to help with the Bridging the Gap program. Four times during the year, volunteers from AFS help distribute 10-12 lbs. of food per child to make sure no child goes hungry over the weekend while helping to build their self-esteem.

Emily Butlin, a member of the AFS marketing team and one of the volunteers from AFS said, “It was so rewarding to be able to play a role in contributing to this effort. Seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces made me happy to be a team member at AFS and happy to be a part of this worthwhile cause.”

For team members interested in helping with this great program, the next opportunity is Thursday, May 5 at North Park Elementary in Roy, Utah. AFS will pay for travel time and the time you are volunteering two times per year. Interested team members are encouraged to contact Denise Ward at 801-978-8324 or at ddward@afstores.com.

Associated Food Stores has other community involvement opportunities including reading to elementary kids and assisting United Way with their baby programs.
