The sixth annual Foodshow Auction (the fifth virtual version) took place on March 20 with both excitement and unbeatable deals for retailers. Held virtually, this year’s auction provided participants with the opportunity to capitalize on bulk buying and secure the best deals of the year.
The Foodshow Virtual Auction is more than a chance for members to secure discounts. It’s a perfect demonstration of the critical role played by the AFS buying team, whose efforts allow independent retailers to remain competitive in continuously evolving markets. Grocery buyers play an essential role in identifying quality products, negotiating pricing, and maintaining strong vendor relationships. Their expertise ensures that stores can consistently offer high-quality products to their communities while keeping costs manageable.
From 9 a.m. to noon, participants were treated to a thrilling bidding experience led by live auctioneers/team members Todd Bell, Kris Romeril and Lon Herget. Each item presented added to the excitement of the event, as retailers eagerly vied for the chance to purchase select products at the lowest pricing tiers.
With a wide range of items up for grabs, from Food Club butter and Powerade, to bacon and cheese, there were 18 deals on some tremendously popular items. The auction proved to be a fantastic opportunity for retailers to bolster their inventory while maximizing their margins, especially since many of the items were procured pre-tariff, protecting the retailers from the price increases.
Since the auction, sales numbers have continued to rise by millions. For example, orders of have already reached $1.6 million.
